The GMB is buying maize at the official producer price of $390 per tonne.
The GMB is only buying directly from farmers and not from traders. The GMB is not making cash payments. Payments are made within 60days of delivery through Agribank and CBZ.
This development is as a result of the Government having availed $4.6m by end of May 2014, for the buying of grains in this marketing season. However, the GMB has carried over a debt of $1.7m representing payments for deliveries not paid to farmers in the last season.
The GMB has experienced a 231% increase in maize deliveries to its depots countrywide compared with the same period last year. This is just over 40 000 tonnes up from 12 000 metric tonnes delivered last year.
