The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board published a notice in The Herald of Friday, 17 February 2014 which was titled “REGISTRATION FOR 2014 TOBACCO MARKETING SEASON AND SUBMISSION OF CROP ESTIMATES”.

In that notice, tobacco farmers “are reminded that they MUST be registered before the commencement of the 2014 marketing season.

Requirements to be registered as a grower are:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. A recommendation letter rubber stamped and signed by the grower’s local AGRITEX officer to confirm that the grower is a bona fide tobacco grower.
  3. Proof of land availability i.e. permit/land offer, or, a recommendation letter from the growers local Councilor/Chief/Headman if in communal area.
  4. National Identification (certified copy).
  5. A registration fee of $10if registration is done before the deadline of 31st October in year preceding the marketing season.

In addition to the normal registration fee of $10 the following penalties are levied for all registrations done after the legislated deadline:

  • A penalty of $10 is charged for registration between 1st November and 31st December.
  • A penalty of $40 is charged for registration between 31st December and the start of the marketing season.
  • Any registration that is done after the commencement of the marketing season attracts a penalty of $240.

TIMB accepts the use of the stop order system by growers to facilitate early registration.

In addition, TIMB wishes to advise all tobacco growers that crop estimates for 2014 selling season MUST be submitted to any nearest TIMB office before the start of the marketing season.
